How can I fix the fact that my pictures look different on different computers?

iamjacksrevenge asked:

My myspace pictures look different on different computers. For example, on my computer my pictures look really good, (Bright, vivid colors, etc). But on my friends computer all of my pictures look really dark and splotchy. I want to know how I can edit pictures so that they will look the same on all computers. 10 points if you can help.

Every monitor is different. All you can do is calibrate your own monitor and hope others do the same.

    A Spyder 3 is a good option

Every person has their computer and monitor set for their eyes.

For digital photograph doesn’t change from viewing……

    don’t worry about it.

Not possible. Everyones’ monitor are different and calibrations will be different. Since you’ve adjusted the picture to look right on you’re monitor, it’s not going to look like that on other computers. Someone might like their monitor to be a little less bright and this will effect the image that is displayed on it. Unless you get a monitor calibration device and make your friends use it to match your monitor, you’re at the mercy of what is set on the computers.

Well, for one thing – you have no control over the quality, brightness or color balance of anyone else’s computer. So you’ll never get perfect results.

So you must know how to OPTIMIZE your image using the only adjustments that are universal and that – if done correctly – are not dependent on how things look on your monitor … or someone else’s.

To put it as simply as possible, you have to adjust an image correctly using LEVELS.

If – as most people do – you’re adjusting things like brightness and contrast and color balance BEFORE or instead of adjusting Levels … well, you’re doing it wrong, and you will NEVER get consistent results.

To learn how to adjust Levels, go to my tutorial here:

Scroll down to section 3. Density (Lighting) and learn that. And check the More About Levels page also to get a better understanding of it.

    Good Luck.

You can’t fix it in the picture. All monitors will display colors differently, since each user can adjust his colors, brightness and contrast.

Also, as monitors get older, they don’t perform as when new.
