That would most likely require a small network hub and some remote access software, but I’ve seen ut done. I’m trying to get that done for my home computer as well.
you must tell eac computer to allow file sharing, I hope this helps–good luck
It depends on the program. Some installed programs require the registry and certain files to be present on the local drive for it to work. Most large software suites heavily use the registry, so this would preclude using it through a file share
As was already mentioned, Remote Access software such as Remote Desktop or VNC would work, but that is the same as sitting at the PC with the software installed, with the option of attaching the local drives so you can work on remote files.
The program that you have should support client network connection, if so then it will have a client utility that you need to install on the other machines.
other option
From other machines use remote desktop and connect to the machine which has this program installed, so you can use from other PCs
cheers
It depends on the operating system that you are using. So, if you are using windows server2000 or any of the later versions (windows server 2003) then you can achieve it by creating a Roaming Profile.
Roaming Profiles:- If users access more than one machine or move around the network, a roaming profile can be created to ensure that the user will receive his or her user settings and preferences no matter where they log on.
So when roaming profile are used, the ntuser.dat file is stored on a ‘network share’ and loaded to the local machine when the user logs on.
Using roaming profiles enables users to see their desktop settings anywhere in the network they log on to……….
It really depends on what you are trying to install.
While some ’simple’ programs may work you will not be able to open the same program on more than one computer at the same time. Also, other programs such as MS Word, etc, will not work like that. They are not network programs and not designed to function in that manner.
There is a network application out there from Citrix which might help, also Microsoft has some server level apps which allow this to happen — but again, it generally will not be as easy as it seems. If you read the license agreement on most peices of software you are actually not allowed to do this. 1 computer, 1 license, 1 installation. Some programs will allow multiple installations on seperate computers but have a clause which states that it can only be used on any ONE computer at anytime.
this is something out of the ordinary… this usually works but there are some programs which are just tough to get around with..
find the program’s folder in the program files folder in your host’s drive and share the folder. copy the shared folder (with all the files in it) to the recipient computers and try to run the main executable of the program… this usually works with games both local and online…
I need to get some games from one computer to the other but i cannot use the CD because its a one time install and since i swapped computers with my brother he wants his games on here. Is there any way of getting the games on my computer without installing them again. Im trying to create a network share but it isnt working. So i cannot put the files on the network and share them. Is there any other possible way than buying the games again. Thanks James.
