How do you send a messege to other computers on a network?

Grasshoper asked:

I have a wireless network with 1 laptop running vista, and a desktop computer connected through an ethernet cable to a netgear router. I am wondering if i can send messeges to other computers on the network. I have tried the net send command in command prompt but apparently vista has removed it.

i am not so sure about vista; but with windows xp; you can use this free software:

after installing, right click on the icon in the system tray, click on settings. click on the network tab and check on accept on incoming notes.

you need to install this software to all pc in the network.

atnotes is similar to post it notes. and it can send messages to other pcs in the network. it also has a calendar feature.
